We provide training for SysAdmins who need to administer and integrate Nagios as a monitoring solution. Our Nagios training spans three days and is intended to give attendants the conceptual framework and practical lab experience necessary to intelligently integrate Nagios (see more on pricing and schedules).

 

Day One: Basic Nagios Administration
 Pre-requisites:
Laptop with working ssh and http client
Basic understanding of Linux command line
Ability to use Unix editor (e.g. vi, pico, etc)
Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP ports, subnetting, basic routing / switching)
Able to install packages (rpm/yum; deb/apt-get)
Able to compile c code from source (configure, make, etc)
UNIX / Linux folder permission and ownership concepts
Basic understanding of Apache
 Objectives:
Nagios installation
Nagios configuration files
Defining hosts and service checks
Alerting and escalation options

Day Two: Intermediate Nagios Administration
 Pre-requisites:
Laptop with working ssh and http client
Strong understanding of day one's material
Basic understanding of SNMP
Windows server administration
 Objectives:
Nagios internals
Advanced snmp checks (check_snmp)
Monitoring remote hosts
Alerting and escalation options
  - Windows (NSClient++/check_nt)
  - UNIX / Linux (NRPE / check_nrpe)
Distributed monitoring (NCSA)
Template driven checks
Event handler response to down services

Day Three: Advanced Nagios Training - (Integration Concepts)
 Pre-requisites:
Finishing Day 1 and Day 2 training
OR
Solid understanding of day one and two material
  AND
Solid understanding of LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP/Perl)
Able to compile code from source (e.g. ./configure, make install, etc)
Able to keep up with fast paced labs
 Objectives:
Nagios front end tools
Nagios integration with
  - Cacti
  - Splunk
  - Nmap
  - Rrdtool
  - etc.
Deployment strategies
Plugin customization
Includes - 2 hours of Post-Class Consulting (email and phone)
